CLOGSAG TO GO ON STRIKE

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association has announced they would embark on a nationwide strike on July 30 if the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission fails to put forward a concrete offer on the market premium to its members when they are migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. In a communiqué issued in Accra today, the association said its decision is based on the failure of the Commission to comply with directives by the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare to develop scenarios for the payment of premium to members of CLOGSAG by March 5, 2012. But the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has dismissed their claims. According to the Director in Charge of Grievances and Negotiations at the Commission, Cornelius Yawson, CLOGSAG is not eligible for market premium under the new structure. He noted that CLOGSAG’s decision to withdraw their services is not the solution to the problem. He encouraged them to rather resort to procedure by submitting to the National Labour Commission for both sides to amicably settle the issue.
