The Student Representative Council at
the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is assuring students
that the academic calendar would not be disrupted by the ongoing Ghana
Association of University Administrators. It says the date of re-opening for
continuing students remains on 17th August 2012, and the date for the admission
of fresh students remain 21st September, 2012. The University Administrators are
currently on strike demanding an increased market premium percentage when they
are migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. Last week, the Student
Representative Council of the University of Ghana threatened a demonstration if
the strike is not called off by close of this week. The strike has brought activities
to a halt on the various university campuses, forcing authorities at the KNUST
to recently postpone the 2011/2012 graduation ceremony for students who have
completed their degree programmes. The processing of admission forms for
incoming students and negotiations of salaries of fresh and continuing students
have all stalled as a result of the strike. There
have been growing concerns that the academic calendar may be disrupted by the
continuing strike, with only one month to the scheduled resumption date. But in
a letter to the student body, President of the KNUST Student Representative
Council, Ebenezer Bonsra says no such thing would happen. Here are portions of
the letter dated, read to you by Gabby
