SECURITY ISSUES IN GHANA


Security Chiefs in the country have today pledged their allegiance and loyalty to President John Mahama after meeting him at the seat of government, the Osu Castle. The team of security chiefs who visited the president included Inspector General of Police Paul Tawiah Quaye, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Peter Augustine Peter Blay, and National Security Adviser Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo Mensah. The Chief of Defence Staff who spoke on behalf of the security chiefs told President John Mahama that the country’s borders have been secured enough and remains stable as it goes through these trying times. Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay assured him that the security services would continue to work in consent and in unison to achieve the common objective of providing peace and security for the country. On his part however President Mahama urged the security agencies to continue in their loyalty to the nation and be prepared to defend the country at all times.Meanwhile Parliament has assured President John Mahama of their unflinching support in the execution of his responsibilities as leader of the nation. Parliament says it is hopeful the new president will fit into the position of the former president appropriately, and work with them successfully. The speaker of parliament Mrs. Joyce Bamford Addo gave the assurance when she led the leadership of the house to pay a courtesy call on the president, and to express the condolences of the August house to him at the demise of former president Mills. She said parliament will collaborate with President Mahama to continue with the good work the former president initiated. Well, pro opposition pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance is the latest organization to extend condolences over the demise of the president. In a statement signed by the Chairman of AFAG, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, the group described the demise of the president as the darkest and most challenging incident in the history of Ghana's democratic governance, describing the late president John Mills as a finest statesman. The statement said members of the Alliance for Accountable Governance are filled with deep pain, shares with the people of Ghana, home and abroad, and the depth of pain crossing our hearts in this difficult time.
