SHOWDOWN AT THE KUMASI OFFICE OF BULK OIL STORAGE AND TRANSPORT LIMITED

It was a showdown today at the Kumasi Office of Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Limited, (BOST) as tanker drivers blocked the main gate to prevent any truck from entering the storage yard. Their actions nearly caused a clash with the police. Some agitated drivers who spoke with Kapital News mentioned that they were not happy at the way and manner the private security outfit at the depot was treating them. The aggrieved drivers alleged that the one particular security man whose name has been withheld has been subjecting them to the Pre-loading and Un-loading Safety and Security Checklist exercise that he is supposedly not in charge of. The Security Checklist is a legitimate process every tanker driver must satisfy and failure to meet any of the requirements, a tanker driver will not be allowed to entry the depot as directed by BOST. The Buffalo Unit of the Ghana Police Service as at the time of the report was in to control the situation which nearly erupted in a clash. Meanwhile the Depot Manager of BOST Kumasi, Mr. Nicholas Samari who spoke off record with Kapital News mentioned that he was surprised at the drivers’ agitations since they have given enough education on the Pre-loading and Un-loading Pre-loading and Un-loading Safety and Security Checklist. He revealed that plans are advanced to develop the infrastructural projects at the yard which includes the rehabilitation of a parking lot for trucks. Mr. Samare however appealed for security to be beefed up at the company in order to forestall future occurrences.
