The people of Salaga in the northern region of
Ghana have denied media report that the newly constructed market of the town is
being taken over by drug peddlers. Speaking to KAPITAL RADIO NEWS, Mr. Mustapha
Toffik an opinion leader and member of the government communication team said
he is very disappointed in the report which was published by the FINDER news
paper on the 9th of July, 2012. ``it is absolutely ridiculous and we
the people of Salaga demand an immediate rejoinder to the story since it will
be tarnishing our image and the hard won reputation the town has won for
itself’’. He further stated that the town is likely to become the new regional
capital should the petition they sent to the president of Ghana to divide the
Northern Region into two is approved by his Excellency John Attah Mills and
story like this type can make their bid fail. Mr. Toffik again observed that
the market is fully functional and that marketing activities is smoothly
operated at the market without any hindrance and invited other people outside
the Region to come and transact their businesses without fear. He concluded by
calling on all stake holders of the market to help keep it clean and take a routine
maintenance to avoid early deteriorating of the market and urged all media practitioners as well to verify and authenticate the source of their story before
publishing or airing them.
