The
National Commission for Civic Education is appealing to Government, donor
agencies and individuals for logistical and budgetary support to enable it
efficiently carry out its constitutional duties. According to the Ashanti
Regional Director of the National Commission on Civil Education, this year’s
general election is crucial as all the political parties are struggling for
power. Alhassan Yakubu in an interview with Kapital News discloses that this
has become necessary for the commission to prepare adequately to educate the
electorates especially the rural communities ahead of the this year’s
presidential and parliamentary elections. The Ashanti Regional Director of NCCE
indicated that the commission would need to step up the engagement with
identifiable bodies including the political parties, youth, chiefs, religious
leaders and the general public for smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls but
due to the under-resourced and funds the commission will finds it difficult to
meet up its core obligation.
