GHANA HEALTH SERVICE

The Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, has described cholera as a development oriented one, and not exactly a health one. He was speaking to Kapital News in connection with a recent report released by the United Nations Children’s Fund which indicated that cholera cases in Ghana have increased over the past seven months. He confirmed the report, saying although cholera manifests itself as a disease; it really is about the dire sanitation situation in our environment. He says that because of this, the Health sector, in mitigating the disease, can only advocate by sensitizing the general public on practicing proper hygienic lifestyles in order to pre-empt potential attacks.  Dr. Bekoe confirms that cholera cases are on the upsurge, saying although the Brong Ahafo and Greater Accra regions as cholera-prone hotspots, the general public across the country are all at risk of contracting the disease.
