WAGES IN GHANA

The Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has assured that all public and civil servants would be migrated onto the single spine salaries structure by October this year. Mr. George Smith Graham says about ninety-nine percent of the workers have so far being migrated onto the single spine salaries structure, with about eighteen small institutions yet to be migrated onto the structure. Mr. George Smith Graham reveals that the commission has instituted a grievances review committee made up of experts to look into various institutions who are not satisfied with their migration. Commenting on the recent strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators over the issue of Single Spine, Mr. Smith Graham said a three member mediation panel has been instituted to look into their issue. Touching on the concerns of the pharmaceutical council over the new pay policy, Mr. Smith Graham discloses that the pharmacy council has since been removed from the new pay policy over their dissatisfaction of the mechanism of the single spine salaries structure. He explains further. Meanwhile Mr. George Smith Graham does not understand why some workers are experiencing inconsistencies in their monthly pays. He explains that the anomalies are emanating from the office of the controller and Accountant General Department, some of which are genuine, and are being rectified by the department.
