The
Appointment’s Committee of parliament would on Monday 6th
August vet Vice Presidential nominee Kwasi
Amissah Arthur, in a session that would be open to the public. According to
Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the general public is
invited to witness the vetting session. This is contrary to views that had been
expressed by the Majority side of the house who wanted such a vetting process
to be in - camera. Majority
Leader Cletus Avoka had kicked against the public vetting, arguing it will
expose the office of Vice-president to a possible public ridicule.
The decision was taken after a marathon meeting of the committee today, after
the Speaker of Parliament, Justice Joyce Bamford Addo disclosed to the house
that she had received a letter from President John Mahama today that he had
appointed the current Bank of Ghana Governor as his vice. The position became
vacant after then Vice President John Mahama was sworn into office last week
Tuesday, following the death of President John Mills at the 37 Military
Hospital. This is the speaker reading the letter from the President to members
of the house yesterday.
