The General Secretary of the Ghana
Medical Association Dr.Frank Serebour says the petition the Ghana Medical
Association presented to the Government to institute an inquest into the death
of the late President John Evans Atta Mills was not expected to be made public.
Speaking on DAYBREAK Kapital, Mr. Serebour indicated that the Ghana Medical Association
did not issued the petition through the media or at a secret place but met formally with the president at the
castle to congratulate him on his new position as the first gentleman of the
land and extend their condolence to him for loosing his superior. He further stated that they then presented an
official petition to the president to institute an inquest into the unfortunate
incident which occurred on the 24th of July, 2012 at the 37 military hospital
in Accra so as to prevent such occurrence if it true that the president was not
handled well at the health facility which is being speculated by some section
of the general public. He stated further that the president thanked then and
promised to discuss the petition with his cabinet and if they find it necessary
and prudent, they will yield to their request by instituting a committee to
probe into the demise of the late president. He however admitted that they are
quite surprised about how the letter got onto the public domain and will check
within themselves to know how the letter got to the press and the public.
