NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL

There have been complaints from some National Service personnel across the country that transportation allowances have been slashed. According to some of the aggrieved service personnel, they are not being paid the exact amount due them as transportation allowance. The National Service Secretariat pays an allowance for transportation apart from their monthly allowances, calculated based on the distance between one’s area of residence and where the person is posted to. The complaints are that a flat rate is being paid to service personnel regardless of the distance between their service stations and their areas of residence. Service personnel at Jasikan in the Volta Region who spoke to Kapital news on condition of anonymity complains that a flat rate of 40 cedis being paid to him is insufficient for him to transport himself back to his home region. But the Jasikan District Director for the National Service Secretariat, Mr. Benjamin Benabe denies slashing the transportation allowances of the service personnel.
