ROAD SAFETY

The National Road Safety Commission is cautioning drivers who park their vehicles on the shoulders of various roads in the Kumasi Metropolis, or risk being penalized. The commission says it has the requisite equipment to tow away even long vehicles, and cautions vehicle owners and drivers that their vehicles would be towed away of they do not desist from the act. According to Ashanti Regional Boss of the commission, Mr. Thomas Boakye, the towing of vehicles parked unlawfully on the shoulders of the street has begun. He blames city authorities for the high ascendency in illegal parking on shoulders of major roads of the metropolis. Long vehicles have resorted to parking on the shoulders of major streets in most parts of the city. Some drivers of such vehicles argue they do so due to lack of packing space for heavy duty cars. But Mr. Thomas Boakye warns them to desist. Meanwhile Mr. Boakye says his outfit has prosecuted a good number of drivers for road traffic offences since the beginning of the year.
