NEW PARLIAMENTARIANS SAGA IN GHANA

A political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Mr. Mohammed Abass has stated that the creation of new constituencies is not determine by anybody but is a requirement of democratic practice as population increases. Mr. Abass was reacting in an interview with Kapital News to comments made by the Progressive Peoples Party flag bearer Mr. Paa Kwasi Nduom that the current parliamentarians in parliament should be reduced. According to Mr. Abass, The ideal fundamental principle of democracy is that if the number of people increases, the representatives of the people should increase to make sure that the people are fairly represented in their respective demarcated localities. He further stated that it is indeed going to cost the nation since the new MPs who will take up these new seats in parliament have to be paid but concluded that it is part of the system which cannot be over looked since it is the best system in modern day governance.
